I bought an empañada: jamon, goat cheese and peppers, and a yogurt, to have on the train. At the staton I bumped into another pilgrim from Cajors. This was his 8th Camino and he had walked 12 km from Terradillas de los Templarios and was now taking the train to León and then the bus to Villafranca to stay for two weeks with the friends who owned an albergue there. We both decided that at this time of year, private albergues were the way to go as they had califacione....HEAT. So we bid each other "buen Camino" and I headed the few km to the Casa Simón. And, of course, overshot by 1.5 km. so, with help of a young man, headed back and I'm the only pilgrim in a place that will hold 30. My room, with heat, sleeps 10.
It would be nice to have others if only for more body heat in the room. The place is very clean, with a great bathroom.
Bed and breakfast is 16.50€. And I'll need a good sleep as tomorrow is actually my first day of walking. 20km to Villar de Mazarife and hopefully stay in the same place that Les and I stayed in 2013. Best food on the Camino.
Oh, and I detail I almost forgot. It seems that after mailing those guides to myself in Santiago, I've lost mine. I took it out for directions to this Casa and think I may have left it at the bar. I'll check tomorrow morning on my way out of town. However, I have Ben Coles' guide on my phone, plus a list of those places that are open at this time of year. Not many so you need to know.
Looking forward to a bowl of soup for dinner and then a warm sleep.
