Actually, it was IN the chocolate shop. We had discovered B'cosse, a lovely tea shop, a couple of months ago and the tea and scones are divine. However, I felt it only fair to test out some of the chocolates as being from the home of Roger's Chocolates in Victoria, I always feel a certainly responsibility to compare and contrast (kind of reminds me of those pesky history questions on the history exams in high school). Anyway, I walked in yesterday just as a woman and Gavin, the baker and one of the owners, were finishing up a conversation. He turned to me and said "And I was just going to email this lovely lady today". Likely something to do with the recipe I gave him last week. The other woman's name was B.J. and Gavin suggested that we could speak Canadian if we wanted ;-) So here's how the converstion went:
me: You're from Canada? Where, east or west coast?
BJ: Not the east coast but from all the other coasts.
me: Seriously, where are you from?
BJ: Well, the last place I lived was Vancouver Island, but I've lived in Montreal and all the provinces in between. Where are you from?
me: Vancouver Island.......Victoria.
BJ: (with eyes wide) I lived on Rockland.
me: I live on Linden.
At this point, she turned to Gavin and said "One block away!" and then turned to me and said, "Well, maybe you know Nancy".......but she couldn't remember the last name.
It's a very small world indeed and some of you out there may know BJ. If you're ever in Montpellier, go to B'cosse, enjoy the tea, scones and chocolate and you may bump into her. She lives here now.
Oh, and Gavin and Filip have two rooms that they rent out. Can be short term, B&B or longer term. Check it out: www.bcosse.be
