A walk to the top of the world

We have been so fortunate with the weather. 15 minutes of light rain out of Moratinos over a week ago and since then, sun, sun and more sun. Very cold in the mornings so we are dressed in everything, including toque and mitts. By 10am, one layer is off and by noon, we are in shirtsleeves.
So yesterday we left Villafranca just as the church bells were chiming 8am. As it was going to be a 27km day, we chose the low route by the river. The long day passed quickly with the lovely scenery to keep us distracted.

Below is a geranium laden house with the bread delivery in the bag hanging at the door.

The climb up to O Cebreiro is a gradual uphill until the last 6km and then it really kicks in, but so does the scenery. Stopping to take a breath gave an opportunity for some photos.

Below, about 30 minutes to go and the wind became cold so on went the jackets.
This was at 4pm. By 5:30 the clouds rolled in and the tiny village looked quite ghostly.
Since our bedbug episode, we have opted for our own rooms with sheets and towels. Last night I opted for the albergue so that we could put all the beddings into a hot dryer one more time.....just to make sure all the bugs were gone. Unfortunately the albergue was so hot (25C at least) that we did not sleep well. People were up and getting ready at 6am just to get out of the heat. Again, we had a quick breakfast and were out on the trail by 8am. The mist stayed with us all day until we arrived in Triacastela but it’s supposed to be sunny again tomorrow.

And this is last night’s ‘lost in translation’ episode. I had ordered trout!
